Living in an ancient Mayan world nestled in the virgin jungles of the Yucatan has given my 12 year old daughter Landis and I encounters of a lifetime. Our Mayan friends have shared with us many secrets of their culture and we have experienced many of their customs and ceremonies. There are many mysteries and legends of this ancient race, and my daughter Landis and I started this series to share some of these fascinating traditions in a fun mystery book which educates the readers not only into the everyday life of the traditional Mayans still living in pueblitos but into authentic ancient customs through flashbacks in the book. Landis and I are Canadian, so I am thrilled that my daughter is completely fluent in her second language of Spanish, so we added some easy-to-remember Spanish words to teach readers a little of the language. All of the facts throughout the book are true, but they are presented in an entertaining fictional style with a closing message of integrity and wholesomeness. We are writing our next Landis Adventure book called “The Mystery at Isla Mujeres”, which takes place on a beautiful island nestled off the coast of Cancun, in the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean Sea.

I often get asked, what is a typical day like for a successful writer such as yourself? I stick to a simple schedule. Every day, I rise with the sun. After a 10 kilometer swim in the Pacific Ocean, I skip back home and make breakfast for my sweetheart. Then I sit down at the computer and write 3 chapters of my novel. At 1:00pm, I go for a chocolate massage. When 4:00pm rolls around, I open the gin and get hammered. I live in beautiful Vancouver, Canada and I love to read and write books! I practice yoga pretty much every day and would eat dim sum for every meal if I could. Oh, I love to bake cupcakes and play board games.

IT technician by day, fledgling author by night. I mostly write fantasy, from fairytale short stories to swords & sorcery style epics. I've also recently branched out into paranormal/urban fantasy and sci-fi and even western! I write for fun and try to make that show in my work. I am a one-man team, doing all my own writing, editing, promotion, and cover art. My current project is the Tales from the Green series, an ongoing fantasy epic. It is a story for all ages, one filled with action and adventure, but also one that doesn't take itself too seriously. You can check out the first two installments, The Magic Flute and The Wizard's Tome right now at Smashwords or Amazon. The third book in the series, The Tainted Sliver, is in the works and should be out sometime in 2011. Check out my blog at http://sdbest.blogspot.com for more news, updates about various projects, and other random stuff. The Curse of the Jade Amulet by Annie Crawford The Curse of the Jade Amulet by Annie Crawford Jan. 20, 2012 $2.99 51374 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Hello! I'm Annie Crawford. I was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but lived with my mother and grandmother in New York City until I was four. My grandma, whom I idolized, worked as an editor at what was then Harcourt Brace. She threw legendary parties for the authors and poets she worked with, and I can claim the distinction of having been chucked under the chin as a toddler by W. H. Auden, Katherine Anne Porter, Randall Jarrell and other mid-century luminaries! From as far back as I can remember, I loved books above all else. My dream was to be either a writer, an editor just like my grandma, or, if all else failed (I was a practical child), a librarian. As it is wont to do, life took me on a detour. When I was four, my mother remarried and my life changed radically. We set off with my itinerant stepfather in an old milk truck, crisscrossing the North American continent from Alaska to Oaxaca, Mexico until we finally settled in Southern California when I was in high school. I went on to college and grad school, majoring in Latin American Studies and Spanish, married a Mexican physicist and moved to Puebla, Mexico, where I lived for 20 years. There, when my kids went off to school, I finally got back to writing. I started out with short stories, one of which was published in translation. My first book-length project was a middle-grade novel titled The Ring of Leilani (soon to be published with Smashwords!). This was followed by The Curse of the Jade Amulet, completed after I moved back to the U.S. and chosen as one of the ten finalists in the San Francisco-based Larsen-Pomada Literary Agency’s annual contest a few years ago. I'm currently finishing up the first draft of a third novel. For most of my professional life I’ve earned my keep doing translations and teaching English and Spanish grammar, composition, conversation and phonetics at the college level. These days I live in the beautiful rainy state of Washington with my wonderful new husband, where I write and work part-time as a court-certified Spanish interpreter. When I'm not interpreting or writing, you can find me hiking, doing yoga, reading, cooking and enjoying other hedonistic pursuits! Please visit me at my blog, Magic and the Muse.com.

A writer who has had many stories published in the women's weekly magazines and literary journals, John was drawn to writing at an early age. At one time in his teenage years he was reading one book a day---the subject didn't matter, but it needed to grab his interest in the first couple of pages, or he would abandon it. And this is the rule he has since applied to all his writing, believing that if you haven't grabbed the reader straight away, you are not writing well enough.. After graduating with an Honors Degree in History he spent many years in academic publishing, at last leaving to pursue his long-held dream of becoming a writer. "Easily among the very best new writers we have seen", "fresh and original", "creates life-like characters---maybe too life-like" (whatever that means!), are some of the comments made by literary reviewers and consultants about his work. His favorite band is The Moody Blues.

My life has undoubtedly been harsher than other, being forced to live in a wheelchair and all, but my personality and drive to continue has helped me to write. It's impossible to know if I'd still write if not for being a quadriplegic, but I've come to enjoy writing and sharing my passion and stories with others.

For about ten years, beginning when I was 8, I spent most of my school vacations on an estate about three hours north of Sydney, Australia. It was historic. Its original workers had been convicts--criminals sentenced to work in Australia rather than go to jail. One day, I found an old brick with the dent in it of the convict who had pulled it out of the kiln. As I was usually the only child, I made up stories about that convict. I write YA novels and live in Vancouver with my longtime feline friend, Lillee.

Author bio:
Jansina has been writing ever since she could do more than make meaningless scribbles with a crayon. She began her writing career at 13 with a newspaper column, Jansina's Journal. Her goal is to create realistic Christian fiction for young adults that will both entertain and inspire. This is her first published novel, though she has over one hundred published articles, short stories and poems in various newspapers and magazines (including the Saint Paul Pioneer Press and Brio). She is a native of Minnesota, and a few years ago discovered Backus, a little-known town of 300. Although she may never live there herself, she lives vicariously through her characters. Jansina is in the process of writing two additional novels, and several short stories-all with the setting loosely based on that little town. Many of the characters in Forgotten Memories play larger parts in those stories. When not writing, Jansina works in marketing, and also copy edits others' books, scholarly papers and articles. In her spare time she enjoys Irish and swing dancing, singing, and rereading Austen's novels. She doesn't spend much time in cemeteries.
