Richard Del Connor has been publishing poetry since 1964, performing rock'n'roll since 1967, producing his own albums of music and recited poetry since 1972, and writing novels since 1984. Rod Martinez was born in and grew up in Tampa, Florida and was attracted to words at an early age. He wrote his first book “The Boy Who Liked To Read” (about himself) with construction paper and pencil in the first grade on his own – wasn’t a class assignment. His teacher then decided to keep the masterpiece and show other students in class what they could do if they applied themselves. Later in life, aside from multiple trips to the public and school libraries, Rod discovered Comic Books and was determined to work for Stan Lee once he was old enough. As a student in school he was drawn to reading, writing and drawing and by high-school had completed several comic books of his own creation. It was his Creative Writing teacher in his senior year that pulled him aside and told him “You should delve into short story writing, give the comic books a rest.” Writing short stories next came natural, it was like telling a story – but using words hands instead of pictures. Within a few years he’d have several short stories done and pursued publishing, but not with the vigor most writers had, he wrote for the love of it and liked to share his photocopied stories with friends and family. It wasn’t until adulthood that he got serious about writing. The next step, of course was to try and write a novel, which proved a VERY fun task. A novel was the embodiment of a comic book in prose form. “Writing a story is like sitting in front of a stage and watching the performers direct me. I have a basic idea of the storyline, but the characters take over and I’m just their tool.” Rod confesses. In his spare time he spends lots of time on the internet, or reading, or writing his short stories, novels and comic book scripts or in his music studio built into his garage – the room he also does his writing in and the place referred to as “the other woman” by his wife. Of course, when he can - he spends time with his wife and son.

During my youth, I was lucky to be able to visit my parent's families each summer in two very small towns and had, in my opinion, free range over what I did. It was a great and unique experience that allowed my imagination to grow wild. I started to write and paint at a very early age and have been lucky to be able to continue my creativity my entire life. To do so has caused many difficulties at times, but I wouldn't trade a second of it. Being creative and being able to express myself in paintings, sculptures, and writing has made me a better person. I started creative writing in September 2008 as I really wanted to write a book but had no idea where to start, so I enrolled on a creative writing course at the local college and I've never looked back since. I still haven't written the novel I expected to write either as my eyes were opened to so many other avenues of creative writing. By June 2009 I joined the Holmfirth Writers' Group and March 2010 I became the treasurer. Since then we have relaesed two anthologies with over 350 sales. Personally I have had some poems published, an article in a cat magazine and published my first book in rememberance of my grandparents and their writing. However, everything has been leading up to this moment - the release of COWS! my first novel. It has been two years in the making an after reading it to group members, friends, family and local primary school children it has initially been well received. I hope it goes on to do even better and that I will be able to publish a printed version in the near future.

Tony Pritchard was born in Doncaster, England in 1968. Kicking and screaming he spent most of his youth running from a succession of larger children until eventually escaping to the giddy heights of Teesside Polytechnic. Here he befriended many mentally challenged individuals and spent a great deal of time writing terrible poetry and stories that astounded no-one. There followed numerous flirtations with employment, but the desire to write was far stronger than the desire to learn how to write, and he continued to produce dreadful, lacklustre prose well into his thirties. Somehow, despite all his efforts, his writing improved, and eventually he realised that wanting to write was not enough; he had to learn how to write. This is the first full length book that I have 'put out there' so to speak. Imagine me quite literally quaking with fear as I anxiously check to see if anyone has posted a review about my book. Even a bad review would be welcome! Why? Because I need to know. Have I been wasting my time writing? Have I virtually given up my social life (not to mention my nonexistent love life) for something I am absolute crap at? Or is it possible, no matter how slim the chances are, that I can tell a story that others will enjoy. Some days, it’s what keeps me going – the sheer possibility. I am driven to write. Ideas fill my head every minute of the day while I’m at work. I am constantly scribbling down thoughts on anything I can get my hands on at the time. Writing can be such a lonely business in many ways, and it is hard to get honest feedback from family... 'Yeah – love your book.’ 'Er – thanks – but are you sure you’re not just being nice – that you don’t want to hurt my poor little feelings – or cause a family feud?’ Honestly, I would have preferred some honest criticism. Something I could work with to strengthen my stories. Every book has faults. When I am not writing, I can be found working at a high school, supporting students with learning and social difficulties who are struggling to find their place in a world that can be far too cruel for people who don't 'fit' the norm.
