Let’s Build a Human Being | by Suzannah Stacey Feb. 02, 2012 | $3.49 | 14608 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: My study and love of physiology began when I became a member of the veterinary profession, manning the reception in a practice in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. I discover such a joy in learning about structure, form and function, as well as what can go wrong during disease processes, that I progressed from receptionist to studying as a vet nurse, and then to qualifying as a veterinary surgeon from the Dick Vet School in Edinburgh in 2002. Human and Veterinary anatomy and physiology share many interesting similarities and differences, and whilst at Edinburgh University, I was granted the funding to help study the physiology of neurons and how they adapt to Parkinson’s disease in people. I have been writing professionally for some years, my portfolio including technical manuals in the study of anatomy and physiology and general nursing care for the UK Equine Veterinary Nursing syllabus, as well as regular magazine and newsletter articles that are published nationally and online. My Animal First Aid course, provided by the New Curiosity Shop of online learning has been running for some time now and has become a popular source of information for pet owners and those with a career in looking after other people’s animals. I live in Sussex, treating animals based at my own practice, which is an RCVS registered specialist practice in Veterinary Acupuncture, and share my sofa with a rescue lurcher called ‘Ollie’, who regularly features in much of my writing these days. |

Global Warming-Alarmists, Skeptics & Deniers: A Geoscientist looks at the Science of Climate Change | by Moonshine Cove Publishing, LLC Jan. 25, 2012 | $6.95 | 70066 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: Like James Cagney, I'm a real Yankee Doodle Dandy, born in Kingsport, Tennessee on the Fourth of July. Every year since, I've enjoyed the fireworks displays all over the United States that take place on my birthday. As the picture shows, my major pursuit in life, other than adding letters after my name, including B.S., M.S. and Ph.D., seems to be the ongoing quest for the always elusive "just-right" classic car which currently is the restoration of a 1965 Jaguar XKE coupe, but in the past has ranged from a 1941 Cadillac to a 1961 Ferrari. Over the years, I've worked at a great variety of jobs ranging from bus boy to university professor at Emory University's Oxford College, Southern Arkansas University and James Madison University. I've also worked as a motel clerk, exploration geologist, photographer, door-to-door salesman, newspaper columnist, land surveyor, civil engineer, truck driver and meteorologist. My writings, including science articles, adventure articles, car articles and short fiction, have appeared in such varied formats as professional science journals, newspapers, literary journals and history journals. I've completed six novels with three of them published this year: Blood Scourge (from Moonshine Cove), The Last Lion of Sparta (from OakTara) and The Seventh Deception (from Salvo Press). I've also started a publishing company, Moonshine Cove Publishing, LLC, to publish the books I write and perhaps others in the future. My blog discusses my reasons for this step and my experiences as a self publisher. Certainly my greatest accomplishment, however, was marrying Elizabeth Hill in 1971. We live in the South Carolina foothills of the southern Appalachian Mountains have three sons, Gene D. III, an attorney in the Washington DC area, John Peter, Director of Marketing at a chain of retirements homes in Virginia and William B., an information technology specialist on active duty in the U.S. Navy and currently stationed at the Naval Air Station near New Orleans. |

Them and Us: How Neanderthal predation created modern humans | by Danny Vendramini Jan. 19, 2012 | $9.99 | 89997 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Australian born, Danny Vendramini had successful careers as a theater and film director and scriptwriter before turning to evolutionary biology. In 2005, Vendramini proposed that evolution is not moderated by a single evolutionary process (natural selection) but by two separate and distinct evolutionary processes. His 2005 paper, 'Noncoding DNA and the teem theory of inheritance, emotions and innate behaviour' argued that emotions, innate behaviors and instincts in multicellular animals are moderated by a second evolutionary process which he called teemosis. Vendramini's paper on teem theory was the first new holistic theory of evolution published in a scientific journal since Darwin. A book expanding on teem theory, 'The Second Evolution' is due out in late 2012. Vendramini is also the author of 'Them and Us: How Neanderthal predation created modern humans' (2009) which argued that archaic human females in the Middle East were subjected to sexual predation by Neanderthal males between 100,000 and 50,000 years ago. Vendramini argues that this sustained period of sexual and cannibalistic predation transformed our archaic stone-age ancestors into fully modern humans who then exterminated the predatory Neanderthals. The core aspects of his Neanderthal predation theory were confirmed in 2010 by the publication of the 'Draft Sequence of the Neanderthal Genome' which convincingly demonstrated interbreeding between Neanderthal males and human females in the Middle East prior to the global dispersal of modern humans. A TV series based on his book is in the pipeline. Vendramini lives in Sydney, and is married to the New Zealand writer, Dr. Rosie Scott. |
