The Doomsday Brigade | by Steven Hager Feb. 05, 2012 | Free! | 1283 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I'm a writer, journalist, filmmaker, event producer and counterculture and cannabis activist. I was the first journalist to travel to the South Bronx and document the origins of hip hop. In 1988, I was hired as editor of High Times magazine. I created the Cannabis Cup, a cannabis awards ceremony held every Thanksgiving in Amsterdam, and The Freedom Fighters, the first hemp legalization group. I also created a garage-rock revival band called the Soul Assassins. In 2002 I directed the video shoot that was later released as Live in Amsterdam (Fishbone album). In 2004, I wrote most of the narration for a/k/a Tommy Chong and also appear in the film. My most recent hardback book, The Octopus Conspiracy and Other Vignettes of the Counterculture, was published by Trine Day. Most of my eBooks are available exclusively through smashwords. I also regularly appear at college campuses, sometimes solo, but usually as part of a debate on the legalization of cannabis, alongside former New York City D.E.A. chief Robert Stutman. The event, known as "Heads versus Feds," began in 2001 and has visited more than 200 colleges in ten years, regularly drawing standing-room crowds. Bob and I are known as "The Ultimate Odd Couple," and have become close friends despite the cultural gap between us. The debate is booked by Wolfman Productions in Connecticut. |

Neither Liberal Nor Conservative Be: An Action Plan for People Disgusted By Polarized Politics | by Larry Bradley Jan. 30, 2012 | $9.95 | 47400 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: Larry R. Bradley is a native of Missouri. He began his adult work life by accompanying his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Missouri State University with a commission as a Regular Army Infantry Officer. During his Army career, Larry also earned an MBA in Management from the University of Tennessee. Larry split his military career between combat units (with a preference for Mechanized Infantry and Armor) and Research and Development (R&D) activities. His combat unit assignments include commanding a Mechanized Infantry unit in Europe. His involvement in R&D (the business side of the Army) gave him a unique perspective into the political and economic dynamics of military procurement and national defense. Larry's assignments in this area began with the initial fielding of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle System to the Army at Fort Hood, TX. Later, while at the Headquarters of the Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe, VA, he co-authored the Army's revised policy on modifications to Army equipment (a part of Army operations with a price tag at the time as high as $36 Billion). Following his military career, Larry established a second career for himself in sales. Besides the numerous awards and esteem Larry gathered from his efforts, his influence and impact was probably best reflected by the nickname conferred upon him by his superiors, peers and subordinates at a Fortune 500 company: the "Doctor of Sales". Widowed unexpectedly, Larry has two adult daughters by that marriage. Through the wonders of an Internet dating service, Larry made what he describes as a "10 million to one shot" when he met his current wife in late 2001. They live in Omaha, NE. Larry's passion for the future well being of the country he served so long and his concern for the direction he saw that country taking caused him to found Kindred Minds Enterprises and write Neither Liberal Nor Conservative Be. |
